Barclay’s Men’s & Women’s Clothiers in Downtown Piqua was established in 1947 by Issac Harrison. In the beginning Barclay’s primary focus was on men’s tailored suits, sport coats, dress shirts and accessories.
Stanley Harrison joined his father in 1949 as the business was quickly growing, and the two began to expand Barclay’s. In 1965 Barclay’s moved into 318 N. Main St, doubling the store’s square footage to allow for a wider product presentation.
From the very beginning the vision at Barclay’s was to provide excellent quality clothing at very fair value, and with superior customer service and fine tailoring.
By 1984 Barclay’s was continuing to grow with the purchase of the GC Murphy building to the south. This expansion increased their floor space to 10,000 square feet. This allowed Barclay’s to expand its product offerings not only in suits and sport coats, but enlarge its sportswear department and begin offering women’s sportswear and accessories.
In 1986 Bert Harrison joined his father Stanley, and working together Barclay’s became the largest independent family owned clothing store in the Miami Valley.
